Just wanted to announce that the pull request I’ve been working on to facilitate pluggable backends is ready for review and I’ll be merging in the next day or so
This doesn’t add a new backend yet (like OpenStack or a cloud provider perhaps) but refactors the existing code to make this possible in the future. Anything specific to kubernetes is now contained within that backend implementation. Given that Antidote’s API is already very abstract (containing no Kubernetes concepts) this wasn’t actually that hard - the hard work was just formally defining the interface between Antidote’s scheduler and the back-end code that talks to Kubernetes, and then documenting the crap out of it.
Will be working with interested parties on next steps to implement alternative backend implementations as desired.
